I just spent the day reading your book. (I had read O'Neill's book, Digging the Vein, and so read it as a fan of his work.) My family was annoyed- I couldn't stop reading all day. I think Nebraska will have to be my new favorite team.

Great great book. You should be proud. Thank God you are alive. As a mother of two boys, I am so happy your mom can sleep at night. BUT- mostly, congratulation on such a great book. I do hope the movie comes out. I am from South Bend and will never think of Notre Dame the same way after how they treated your brother. Sadism is the only thing that comes to mind.

    Jason, great summary.

The silver lining of this black cloud of a season was 4 free tickets for the game at the last minute. I was a little worried about new words the kids may pick up from frustrated fans while at their second Nebraska game.

My 6 year old daughter was disappointed they didn't do the wave like last year. Sorry dear, only happy people do the wave.

Half way through the 3rd quarter my 9 year old daughter looked at me and asked, "Why don't they tackle the guy who keeps the ball all the time?" After that I lighted up and had much more fun at the game. A 9 year old at her second football game recognized that the team needed to do something about "the guy who keeps the ball all the time". Something. Anything.

In the end, we had a great Husker day of Valentino's pizza, peanuts, ice cream and the game time atmosphere. And the kids got to touch the turf after the game. It was a good day for two future Husker Fans.

Henry Ford once said that, if you believe you can, you can; if you believe you can't, you cant.
    In either case, you're right!
I have been cheering on The Big Red for nearly fifty years, and if I may make an observation, I see a lot of, "I can't" out there!
Where's the drive, the ambition, the desire to win at any cost that was synonymous with Nebraska Football?
Time was when a player donned a Black Shirt rivers would part and mountains would crumple and opposing players ran out to buy a Big Orange drink!
These guys have to start believing the job ahead of them is never greater than the power behind them!
Some years ago when I was living and working in Arizona, Coach Frank Kush spied one of his players "doggin'a practice. Later, he took the player aside and tucked a football under his arm.
"What am I supposed to do with this, Coach," asked the player.
"I want you to start running south; and when you get so far south that someone has to ask you, what's that under your arm'? that's where I want you to stay!
I don't want you here if I'm not going t get all your best all the time"!

Jason, you do a GREAT job at telling it like it is and I know I get goose bumps and fired up hearing what you have to say. The Program is on the way back with TO taking the lead. TO has such a confident, calming and reassuring voice that will restore the order! From one who has also faced his demons...GOD BLESS you JP!

Much thanks to you Double Nickel for being a voice of change when change was what we needed.

The followers of Husker Football and those that understand what the teams of the 90's did for the character of this great state have been watching your career. We read those articles and felt your pain when you were fighting your demons. We prayed for you and now we welcome you home, . . . back home to God's Country!!!!

You are exactly right, we've got your back J!

    GBR!
