Hey Jason, thank you for your story. I can feel the sincerity in your voice as you explain your personal struggle. I applaud you for you overcoming the demons of addiction. I also thank you for pulling the cover off of Lou Holtz and his crew. How does that happen to a 17 year old kid...it blows my mind! I wish you and your family nothing but the best...

Jason. I saw your story on a program awhile ago, and it impressed upon me in a huge way, but not like your interview today on "Rome" did. When you spoke of the passion that you had for football, and that thus far in your life, how nothing has measured up to it, I can completely relate to you. I never got to D-I, or won multiple national championships, or even suited up for a pro squad, so my story will pale by comparison, but I felt much like you when I tore my knee up in JC ball, and being told that my season was over and perhaps that I should not play again, I was crushed! I felt as if the life I was experiencing was over and I didn't know what to do. I to looked at people that did drugs as if they were crazy, but I fell into the trap of Alcohol, and drugs as well. Only one difference is that I never got as addicted as you, but I have and do suffer from not knowing when to say when it came to alcohol. I was troubled and thought about ending it all. Fortunately I didn't. No need to bore you with the details, but I am now married and still from time to time struggle with overindulging in the drink, but it gotten better and I am learning control, and especially when I hear stories like yours, I know that things can be a whole lot worse, but if you focus it can be a whole lot better. Much credit to you and I hope to become as strong as you have become to overcome these nagging little vices that sometimes bring me down to a place I don't want to be.

    Jason,

I can only imagine what you went through. As a top flight pro athlete and to have that dream taken away at such a young age is impossible for me to understand. Listening to you for the second time on Jim Rome’s show increased my desire to talk with you. You are so passionate about the facts and how far you fell and the depths you reached in your addiction. The story about your brother made me think of mine and the fight he had and still has with drugs.

I do understand how drugs can affect your family and how your mother and father felt. I am 41 years old have two older brothers one who is 52 and one that would be 53 this year. My younger brother (52) a young adult of the late 60’s and 70’s starting using at 17. I watched my brother move from pot to LSD, ACID, Coke (Powder & liquid), Heroin, and finally crack. I will never forget asking my brother to show me his arms so I could look for track marks. I was crushed when I saw them. This was someone I looked up to and wanted to be around, but could not understand why he did drugs. The unfortunate thing for me was my brother offered me weed when I was 12 and lucky for me I said no. He had no problems using in front of me. I finally told him I had enough when he took money from me and I found him in a place I only saw on TV. The smell of that house is something I will never forget. I saw him stick that needle in his arm and well Jason I broke down and told him I could not take it anymore. I came to Philly (Navy Man) too be close to my brothers and this is how he repays me. I left and did not talk to him for four years. That was some of the worst years of my life. It took losing our father for us to talk again. Jason your story brings up so many memories of my brother, you noted in your book you’re not sure why you lived through this hell. I blame myself for the condition my brother is in, he really is living day to day because the drug use (Heroin injection) has destroyed his body. He has to take medication that knocks him out and keeps him in a haze.

Jason you have taken a step I wish my brother could have. You have to fight daily to stay clean and do what you know is right. It is hard to keep it together just writing this as I know I lost my brother before I ever had the chance to know him. God bless you and your family and the fact your brother is doing great just adds to this success story. Screw Lou Holtz is all I can say.

    Thank you,
    James Stansel

    Jason,

I am inspired by your ability and willingness to discuss your path in life up to this point. I think you are doing great things by telling your story. I agree with Rome, you have a bright future in broadcasting. I never liked Holtz before the interview today with Rome, but I can tell you, I will turn off ESPN when Holtz is on this fall!! Good luck!

    Dear Jason,

As a die hard Rome fan I was pumped to hear you would be on today. Although I have heard your story before, its always inspirational to hear the enthusiasm you have when you describe your past. The idea that always strikes me the hardest is your point that its the person's responsibility to fix their own problem or at least take the first step to get help. I believe, like you, that there is an epidemic in this country with people wanting to pass on blame for mishaps in their lives to others. If people could somehow just realize their potential in life, quit bitching about their problems, and get on with living their lives, maybe we wouldn't have so much damn cynicism in this country. With others like yourself, I belief we can inspire more people to not just be honest with others but to be honest with themselves and take accountability for their mistakes and stumbles in life.

    Thanks Again,
    Dan Richter

Keep up the GREAT work on The Spread. Cause Lord knows what that show would be like with just 2 guys yappin who have never "buckled it up".

if revealing the truth pulls one down so be it; Jason is living in the bed he made, mr. holtz can lie in the bed he made. be fairly easy to disprove for the coach - should be simple to show where he embraced his recruit after the accident and welcomed him to notre dame.

holtz sits on t.v. commenting on football and giving idiotic motivation speeches and makes a ton of money. criticize him, for his profiting on backs of 18-22 year olds.
